Solar Thermal Systems

Solar heating is the method by which solar energy is utilized for use in heating installations, but also for the production of domestic hot water.
Solar thermal systems collect solar radiation and convert it into thermal energy, which can then produce hot water and enhance the space heating system, while with the appropriate technology it is possible to generate electricity. There are many types of solar thermal systems. The difference lies in the degree of heat they can produce, ie as low, medium, or high-temperature collectors. A method by which solar energy is utilized for use in heating installations, but also for the production of domestic hot water.

Low and medium temperature collectors are flat plates that trap solar energy, utilizing the greenhouse effect to heat water inside the frame. These systems produce hot water for domestic or industrial use. High-temperature solar thermal systems are used to generate electricity.

Usage

Their efficiency is proportional to the total solar radiation that falls on the horizontal surface of the collector. In Greece, the average annual solar radiation ranges from 1,450 in the north to 1,950 kilowatt hours per square meter in Crete and Cyprus. Total solar radiation can be measured with instruments such as a pyranometer.
